Disney Cruise Line: ‘Encanto Celebration’
(Posted 5/7/23) By Dory Adler
Disney is the king of brand extensions.
Two hit Disney films — “Encanto” and Pixar’s “Soul” — have launched new family-friendly travel experiences aboard the Disney Magic Cruise Line.
Disney Cruise Line guests can join the fantastical family Madrigal during an “An Encanto Celebration” aboard the Disney Magic. Music, crafts and storytelling enhance the interactive experience. Travelers can take photos with Mirabel and Bruno from “Encanto.”
Kids can also participate in a singalong of "Encanto" songs and create butterfly and flower crafts inspired by the film. Local Colombian beers, cocktails and sodas, along with film-inspired mocktails, offer something for parents, too.
The new Soul Cat Lounge is designed to look like Joe Garner’s favorite club in the film: the Half-Note Lounge. Guests get the classic New York jazz club experience: wood accents, brick walls, leather seats and a dance floor, augmented by Manhattans and martinis, as well as a collection of mocktails and specialty coffees.
The Soul Cat Lounge’s décor is custom artwork from Pixar, featuring tributes to the film, including record labels, concert posters and portraits of jazz legend Dorothea Williams and her bandmates.
And just to keep it interesting, the luxe concierge spaces aboard the Disney Magic have been upgraded. The tropical color palate is inspired by Disney’s "Moana" and an additional outdoor seating area on deck 10 lets guests can relax with beverages while enjoying the ocean breeze. All concierge suites, including one- and two-bedroom accommodations and the two signature royal suites, have been refurbished.
Shore power technology was also installed to minimize the ships its impact on the environment. When available, the Disney Magic can plug into the port's electrical grid, reducing the ship's emissions.
The Disney Magic is currently sailing its first of three itineraries from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Beginning May 24, the ship will return to Miami for a summer of cruises to The Bahamas and Caribbean. This fall, the Disney Magic will head west for its inaugural season sailing out of San Diego.
